Kapalua Bay

LOCATION:  LOCATION:  From HWY 30, turn L at Napilihau St. (Light and Napili sign), R at the T, about .9 miles to the parking lot. (see first photo)

PARKING:   A parking lot is located just North of the Sea House Restaurant.  It can fill quickly.  You can park along the road.

ACCESS:  From the parking lot, walk to the right under a tunnel.  Access is fairly easy.

BEACH:  Virtually all sandy.  Shady areas are not available.

SWIMMING:   It is somewhat shallow for a while and there are some rocks below the surface.  One can swim here but it isn't optimal.

SNORKELING:  This is a nice snorkeling location on both sides of the bay.

SURFING:  Virtually straight out is an area called Scorpion.  It is best left to experts.  Waves build quickly from the North into a horseshoe shape and the reef is virtually exposed right before the wave breaks.  After catching the wave, unless one "gets out" early enough, one can end up on a very shallow reef or hit rocks.  It's exciting but dangerous.
