Honolua Bay

LOCATION:  Between Mile Marker 31 and 32.

PARKING:   There are two parking spots, one on the road where you'll see a sign not to block the driveway and one about 2 blocks North in a dirt parking lot.  Absolutely do not leave valuables in your car.  My suggestion is to leave a window open to keep it from being broken.

ACCESS:  About 2 block walk down a dirt road from the South entrance.  This is now private access.  The owner allows access between 5AM and 5PM only.  Donations are accepted.  If you are prone to mosquito bites, wear repellant.  The owner has rules banning the use of sun block.

BEACH:  Virtually all rounded rock.  This is not a lounging beach.  Shady areas are available.

SWIMMING:   It is fairly shallow for a while and there are plenty of rocks below the surface.  One can swim here but it isn't optimal.

SNORKELING:  On all but high surf days, this is one of the top snorkeling bays.  Many of the snorkeling tour boats bring paid customers here.  The beach consists of mainly large smooth rocks.  The best place to enter is off to the left, where normally there is a small sandy spot.  The water can be a bit murky near shore.  The snorkeling is good on both sides of the bay.

SURFING:  Surfing is excellent out on the point during a North swell.  To access that area, drive about 1 mile North and take a dirt road above the point.  Snorkeling can be done in the bay at the same time surfers are enjoying waves at the point.  This is a fairly local surfing area so be respectful to avoid unnecessary confrontation.
